A week ago I returned from a girl’s getaway to Las Vegas. It was definitely an adventure. After spending almost twelve hours at the Rapid City airport, we finally were able to load our plane and take off for vacation. I cannot complain too much about the insanely long delay at the airport, because it did turn out to be an adventure in itself. Katie, Emily, and I found a nice little table in the airport cafe early in the morning. By about hour 5, people were getting pretty jealous that we had a table, and they had to sit in chairs near the gate. We laughed, nearly cried at times due to our frustration, sang our hearts out to Pandora, and put on our make-up at the little airport table.
When we eventually arrived in Las Vegas at 10:30 PM (we were supposed to arrive at 10:30AM), our friends from Sioux Falls were already having a grand time. We were pretty bummed and being Debbie Downers, so we grabbed burgers and mozied around the Luxor. It was really fun to see the crowds, but I was not prepared for the smoke-filled casinos or the 68 degree temperatures in every building we visited. I had to bundle up in my pashmina like I was in the Arctic.
Saturday was a glorious day. It was by far the best part of the entire vacation, aside from some of the one-liners we came up with along the way. We woke up on Saturday morning, and went to breakfast at the Rainforest Cafe. It was decided at the point that that is as close to a real rainforest as this gal ever needs to get. After breakfast, Katie, Kamille, Emily, and I went to the spa at the Luxor. Because we were getting pedicures, we were allowed to use the spa facilities for the day. It was amazing! We spent time in the sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, and salon for our pedicures. We then went to the pool to work on our tans for awhile. Then, we headed back to the spa to get ready for our evening on the town. I definitely felt like a Kardashian!
Saturday evening makes all the rest of my nights out seem pretty lame. Katie found a really high-class club called Mix. It is located on the top of The Hotel at Mandalay Bay. We were dressed to the nines, and ready to shell at $20 per cocktail. We definitely looked and felt like high-rollers. At 60 stories above The Strip, we could see for miles. I loved the view of all the lights.
The rest of the weekend was spent mostly lounging and getting ready to head back to South Dakota. Although I truly enjoyed this weekend getaway, I was really excited to get back to the ranch. It still amazes me that this place feels like home. I missed John and Chester, and was a little tired of pretending to be the type of girl who wears a dress every day. All in all, I am so glad I had the opportunity to spend a weekend with my girlfriends. Thank you to all of you who made the trip. I know it took some sacrifices, but it was blast catching up with each of you!
Glad to be back in SD,
