Bloom Where You are Planted

Ephesians 4:1 “As a prisoner of the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.”

In life we have choices.  We get to choose what we eat, what television shows we watch, and what we wear each day.  We also get to choose more important things like how we treat those around us, who we spend our time with, and our career paths.  Despite living this beautiful life full of choices, sometimes we do not have a choice.  For example, we may not get to choose where we are planted. No matter where we have been planted, we need to allow ourselves to bloom into the life that God has called us to live.

I recently read a book with my boys about a little tree that does not want to lose his leaves.  He is scared to drop his leaves in the fall, so he clings to those leaves throughout the winter and the following seasons.  While he clings to those leaves, the trees around him grow big and strong and beautiful.  They are tall tees full of life.  They are trees where birds and squirrels play and live. The little tree sees this, but is still scared to drop his leaves, because he isn’t sure what to expect.  Eventually, after some persuading, he finally drops his dried, crunchy leaves and is able to grow and thrive with the surrounding trees.

What do you need to lose in order to grow and thrive?  Maybe you need to lose negative people in your lives.  Maybe you need to lose shame about your past.  Maybe you need to let go of doubt and fear of failure.

God has a plan for each of us.  Bloom where you are planted. This summer I will be attending the WELCA Triennial in Minneapolis.  The theme is “All Anew.”  I look forward to exploring this theme and focusing more on blooming in my own life.  Check out the link for more information about this exciting weekend of faith.
